Swinging London: Blowup

Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 film “Blowup” has become over the years a sort of time capsule for London in the ’60’s. The film follows David Bailey (David Hemmings), a self-centered photographer in ’60’s swinging London as he inadvertently witnesses a murder after the fact, which remains an edgy mystery. The film is largely atmospheric and pays tribute to the burgeoning creative wave that was sweeping across the pond at lightning speed from London to America. It has appearances by model Veruschka, Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Birkin (in her first film). The film also has a notable appearance by the Yardbirds: Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck & Keith Relf as they perform “Stroll On” {a.k.a. Train Kept a Rollin’}. Blowup won the Grand Prix at the 1967 Cannes Film Festival.
