Just got around to watching this amazing film, written by the late Anthony Minghella and am wondering why it didn’t get more attention than it did when it was released. Seems as if it was a big underappreciated. I love character studies and this one was a good moral tale, that gives you a lot to ponder. If it were taken at face value, I suppose it wouldn’t impress some but if you really dig down you find all the good stuff: love, lies, betrayal, cultural differences, social standing, what constitutes good or bad in a person? What’s forgivable? I thought it was interesting what version of the truth each character was capable of revealing, while holding the truer version of themselves close to the vest. So true in life.
Jude Law, Robin Wright Penn and Juliette Binoche….all good performances.
